We are delighted to invite Dr Sonali Mohapatra from the The National Quantum Computing Centre, as our guest speaker this February as we continue our Innovation and Technology theme. Sonali will be discussing New Voices in Space.

About Dr Sonali Mohapatra:

Dr Sonali Mohapatra is a Quantum Innovation Sector Lead at the National Quantum Computing Centre, focusing on the development of quantum computing applications in Healthcare, Space and AI sectors.

Sonali has a PhD in Particle Physics & Quantum Gravity, an interdisciplinary research background and extensive industry experience leading the development and commercialisation of early-stage quantum, space and AI technologies. Previously, she was leading Space Applications Development as part of Craft Prospect, UK and was part of the technical team of ROKS, one of the world’s early Quantum Comms CubeSats made in Glasgow, launching early 2023. Prior to that she has worked on a variety of research projects including working on the LIGO gravitational wave prototype detector at Caltech.

 

In her spare time, Sonali consults regarding EDI, leads non-profits and enjoys speaking, writing and making music. Sonali is an executive member of Space Scotland and is the Chair of New Voices in Space working group of Space Scotland which works to improve EDI and its direct benefits in the UK space industry. Sonali was also a founding board member of the Quantum Literacy network, QIndia as well as a member of One Quantum UK. She is also a regular columnist for ViaSat Magazine where she publishes regular articles and OpEds. In 2020, Sonali was awarded as the RISE best entrepreneur award, India for her founding role in MTSN (Migrant Travel Support Network) to support the safe return of migrant workers home in India during the 2020 covid migrant crisis. Sonali is also the founder and creative director of the queer/feminist platform, Carved Voices, which is currently being wrapped up. Carved Voices published various queer/feminist writers, artists, activists and photographers from around the world, some of whom subsequently went on to publish their own books
